Penmanship Club
Is cursive a dying art? Not in this club!
Writing in cursive improves fine motor skills, mindfulness, memory, comprehension, and self-esteem.
This club is designed to be a supportive, calm environment for students to work on improving their handwriting. Allowing them to connect with peers in an encouraging, interactive, no pressure environment.
In class we will go over manuscript writing, but our focus will be learning the art of cursive writing (vertical and slanted).
Students will be introduced to the fives of writing ( shape, size, slant, spacing, and smoothness).
Also, working on the four Ps (posture, pencil grip, paper position, and pressure).
We will do multi-sensory activities to enhance letter formation. Forming letters with salt/sand trays, shaving cream, and the wet-dry-try method.
Some other games and activities we will be doing are flashlight letters, cursive memory, rainbow writing, and writing hot potato.
Each class, we will start with “Hand Gym” exercises to strengthen fingers. Then move onto letter formation, activities/games, and seat-work.
Come master the art of cursive writing!
