German I

Willkommen! (Welcome!)

I’m excited to continue German I this year. This course focuses on building a strong foundation in pronunciation, vocabulary, and practical sentence use, while also introducing cultural context and everyday expressions. As a native German speaker, I enjoy helping students understand not just how German works, but how it’s actually used.

This is a continuation of last year’s German I class, and some students have already completed chapters 1–6 of Easy German Step-by-Step. We will begin the year with review to help everyone feel comfortable moving forward together.

New students are welcome. If you are joining the class for the first time, please contact me before enrolling so we can make sure this class is a good fit and discuss catching up on prior material if needed.

Students are encouraged to practice about 10 minutes per day using Duolingo to reinforce what we learn in class.

Occasional extras: Holiday candy/snacks (Oktoberfest, Christmas, Valentine’s) 

Student provided supplies: -Easy German Step-by-Step (Premium Second Edition)

This will be our main textbook for the year. Students should bring it to every class.

-Duolingo (free version is sufficient)

-Pencil and Eraser or Pen

Optional: Binder or Folder to keep all of the Handouts 

Pre-Requisites: 

• Basic English Literacy – Since German instruction often uses English as a bridge, students should be comfortable with reading and writing in English.

• Willingness to Participate – Language learning involves speaking, listening, and engaging with others.

• Open Mindset – Readiness to try something new, make mistakes, and learn from them.
