In short, in this class, students will be working in a team to come up with creative solutions to challenges, make their solutions, and then present them in a competition, while staying within a budget! (More details below and the website if you want more details than are in this little blurb https://odysseyofthemind.com/) If you've heard of FIRST Robotics, or Destination Imagination - Odyssey of the Mind is like those, but allows for even MORE freedom and creativity.
We will combine science, technology, arts, engineering, math, creativity, time management, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork, while pushing the limits of what objects can be used for (redefining an item's function), role playing/acting, some public speaking, spontenaity, and problem solving. We will COMPETE and present the long term problems in March/April - so students will be working together in class, and will likely need to also work on their long-term problems outside of class. As a class/team - students will decide if they want to do the Vehicle Problem, Technical/Performance Problem, Classics Problem, Structure Problem, or Performance Problem. Also part of the competition - is a spontaneous problem (we will be practicing towards these as well!) They'll either be verbal, hands on, or a combination. With these, we'll prepare for the unexpected and get to really expand on our creativity.
