World History
9th - 12th
This course surveys world history from the rise of the earliest civilizations to the contemporary global era, emphasizing how societies developed complex political systems, economic networks, religious traditions, and cultural identities over time. We will do this by covering key moments and themes from various points in time across the globe. Please note: History is a wild ride and this is the realist's journey through history. Your student should be mature enough to hear about the hard things alongside the good & noble. This course also covers various genocides to fulfill the requirements of colorado HB20-1336.
To cover the material fully students will need to meet 2 times per week. Once online on Tuesdays at 11 AM and once in person on Fridays at our Westminster campus. Online class meetings will be lecture style and focus on important highlights and connection themes. In person class will be a mix of lecture, hands on projects, and collaborative work.
Students will be required to complete textbook reading and submit answers to basic comprehension questions via google classroom to ensure that reading is completed. (We cover 32 chapters worth of material in 56 classes. I cannot cover everything in class.) Beyond comprehension quizzes, there will also be assigned 4 major projects - 1 per quarter. These may be completed by writing a paper, creating a slideshow with voiceover or video, or creating a 3d model (with proper labelling.)
