In this class, we will read and analyze a mix of classic and modern literature, with a special focus on comparing selected works to their film adaptations. We’ll explore novels, short stories, and poetry, examining how storytelling differs across formats and time periods. Authors we may study include (but are not limited to): William Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Aldous Huxley, Ray Bradbury, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Shel Silverstein, Jonathan Swift, Stephen King, George Orwell, and Edgar Allan Poe.
This list is flexible, and students are encouraged to suggest or request additional works they are interested in reading and analyzing. The goal of the class is to foster a deeper appreciation for literature, critical thinking, and the art of storytelling—both on the page and on the screen.
