
US Government & Civics
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the foundations, structure, and function of the United States government. Students will study the historical and philosophical roots of American democracy, including Enlightenment ideas, the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, and the U.S. Constitution. The course will also examine the debates, compromises, and events that shaped the American political system.
Students will trace the development of the U.S. government over time through constitutional changes, landmark Supreme Court cases, and major political events. Topics include federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, civil liberties and rights, political participation, and the responsibilities of citizenship. Students will also explore how national, state, and local governments impact daily life.
Through discussion, analysis, and coursework, students will develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to become informed and engaged citizens. Students who complete all assignments and most extra credit work with a high degree of accuracy may earn Honors credit.
This class meets Tuesdays from 1:00–2:00 PM via Google Classroom.
